Cassandra Conundrum

(Retired Soldiers Club Book 7)

It takes a special person to mobilise the citizens of a country to wage war against their country. One man has figured out a way to do it. Ken Warren is a private equity specialist who uses his prodigal talent to finance terrorists. He does not care who benefits from his schemes, as long as they are willing to pay his fees. Warren is now directly involved in planning a crippling strike against the United Kingdom. He sources the assistant from a master strategic planner, Sean Connor, a man who would do anything to hurt Britain. Connor is arranging a series of violent riots, and Warren is planning the external impetus that will ensure that the violence surges out of control. Sir Walter Laurie tries desperately to convince the authorities that Lochville and Connor are dangerous, but Connor has spent decades building a support group that has infiltrated every aspect of public service. Laurie is forced to accept assistance from the Retired Soldiers Club and Michael Brugman from Interpol. Brugman has his own reasons for wanting Warren stopped, reasons he is not willing to admit even to himself. The investigation is complicated by elusive nature of Ken Warren. The team cannot find anyone who knows him, or who is close to him. Their only clue is a remote and well-guarded country house that is used by his investment banking arm. Brugman has to infiltrate the select world of international investment banking to find the key. A world where everyone knows the players, and no-one trusts anyone. A world where one miss-step can lead to exposure and the death of thousands. Brugman and the team races desperately to stop Warren and Connor before they light the fuse that will see London burnt to the ground.
